The "Pink" Raleigh Chopper 5 Speed was launched in early 1973
with a price ticket of £36.82, cheaper than the standard 3 speed
bike! The 5 speed was a follow-up special edition model intended
to
reverse the trend of the sales disaster that had been the Chopper
Sprint.
Raleigh, desperate for a sales success gave this model a revised
frame to accommodate the 5 speed gear mechanism and then in a
marketing decision painted it in a
sales killing Pink!
The 5 Speed remained on sale untill early 1976 when it finally
disappeared from the Chopper family.
Now very collectible within
Chopper circles it remains one of my
favourite
bikes. |
