The Girlie Raleigh Chopper was introduced in late 1969/early
1970 based around the then popular MK1 Raleigh Chopper and was
only ever available in the USA.
The bike was sold with an optional removable crossbar to make
it look like a standard MK1 Chopper
but most remained in the original Girls design. Gears when fitted
were mounted on the
handle bars or single speed coaster brake models were also available.
When I restored my "Girlie" I opted to fit white pedals and grips
rather than the correct black items but retained the original
white seat covering.
The "Girlie" remained on sale untill 1973 when new laws introduced
in the USA making the positioning of gear levers
on
crossbars
illegal and killing
the Raleigh
Chopper
just as
the then new MK2 Chopper was launched.
As you can imagine, in the UK this is a vary rare model and a
jewel in any collection. |
